SUPPLY CHAIN /LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT

OF

BLUEDART

This journey into project methodology would have been a travesty had it not been for the guidance, assistance, encouragement and moral support from many. It would be unjust if I do not commence this study by acknowledging their efforts.

I am greatly indebted to every one for sharing their invaluable knowledge and vast experience in ensuring that I remain on the right course. Their innovative ideas provided me clarity of thought essential in completing this project.

It has also been my proud privilege and good fortune to work on this study under the able guidance of My Professor. Their thoughtful comments and conceptual insights into the subject kept me from floundering in my quest. Their uncompromising demand for logical conclusions, quality of presentation, originality of work and novelty of ideas has benefited every single page of this study. I shall always remain grateful to them and no words of thanks can compensate for the liberty that I had been given to encroach upon whatever little spare time they had at their disposal

 Project Synopsis

Indian courier industry has numerous huge and effective courier companies. In general a courier company performs on various scales. To begin with, it can be inter-city and intra-city. From there onwards, a courier company can work on regional, national and even international level. The largest companies in express and logic industry are UPS, FedEx, and DHL to name a few.

A supply chain is a network of facilities and distribution options that performs the functions of procurement of materials, transformation of these materials into intermediate and finished products, and the distribution of these finished products to customers. Supply chains exist in both service and manufacturing organizations, although the complexity of the chain may vary greatly from industry to industry and firm to firm.

Supply chain management is a cross-function approach including managing the movement of raw materials into an organization, certain aspects of the internal processing of materials into finished goods, and the movement of finished goods out of the organization and toward the end-consumer

The most important part of retailing business is to find a balance between investing in front-end and back-end operations. The channel dynamics is going to change over next couple of years as the retailers start growing in size and their bargaining power is likely to increase. Probably that would bring some kind of mutual understanding between manufactures and retailers to develop strong supply chain network. In such a scenario, both the existing operators and new operators must put collaborative efforts to phase out inefficiencies in the supply chain network.

Scope of the Study

Scope of the study is to understand the SCM and Logistics management of Courier Companies and though we studied this concept of limited courier companies .

Limitations of the study

  • Time will be the biggest limitation for the research as due to the lack of the ample amount of time all .If the ample amount of time has been provided with then the researcher could have tried to cover the whole area and the result could have been made more appropriate.
  •  Ample amount of BUDGET was also a limitation to the research as if the researcher has been provided with the appropriate budget then the research can be conducted in a more appropriate way. That is why if an example amount of budget is provided with then the result can be made more appropriate.
  • We used convenience sampling technique owing to limited resources which is not ideal for this kind of research
  • Our limited experience was another constraint on the quality of the research
  • Our respondents were from specific areas and did not cover the whole of India

Objective of the research

The first step in any supply chain management calls for the researcher to define the project scope and then define problem carefully and formulate the research Objectives. An old age says, “A problem well defined is half solved”.

  1. To study in brief about supply chain management.
  2. To study about the BLUEDART ,Its logistics and its SCM strategy
  3. To study about the supply chain management process followed by the BLUEDART
